تفجّرت في القوافي كالشآبيبِ
Indeed, that which, had I once measured it out as love verse,
If she whom, were I to spin her into verse,
would have burst forth in rhymes like showers of rain,
Would gush forth in rhymes like waterfalls,

قد قرّحتها الليالي فهي إن رشحت
قصيدةًa poem أعربتgave expression عنto نفسthe soul مكرُوبِone in anguish
قصيدةً أعربت عن نفس مكرُوبِ
has been wounded by the nights; so if it exudes
The nights have wounded her, so if she were to bleed
a poem, it gives voice to the soul of one in anguish.
A poem, it would express an anguished soul.
