Gray hair foamed and frothed,
and what was black turned white.

So I said, "This account of mine
with Time is settled."

And I went on dreaming, my palace
built high above the stars.

only the sorrowful and careworn.

Time has parted me
from my resolve and set us far apart.

And my mind betrayed me, until

And whoever has grown used to ease,
if life turns bitter, loses his taste for it.

The signature of my tears is on it,
and the stars of night are witnesses.

How many a lament I wailed in love,
whose echo endures, repeated still.
