فهاso behold قمّةthe summit الطودthe mountain العظيمthe mighty بلغتهاI reached it
وروحيand my soul بجَوّin the air of الإنعتِاقliberation تمشّتِwandered
So behold, I have reached the summit of the mighty mountain,
There, I reached the pinnacle of the mighty mountain,
And my soul wandered in the air of freedom.
My soul roamed in the air of emancipation,
وصرتُand I became بعيداًfar away والطلولand the ruins قدhad اختَفَتvanished
وراءbehind ضبابٍa mist حالكٍpitch-dark عنfrom بصيرَتيmy inner sight
And I was far away, and the ruins had vanished
I became far away while the hills disappeared
Behind a pitch-dark mist, beyond my inner sight.
Behind thick fog that blinded my vision,
وسادَand reigned سكونٌstillness فوقَabove أوديةٍvalleys غدَتhad become
لناظِرِهاto their beholder تَبدوappear كأعظمِlike the greatest لجّةِocean deep
And stillness reigned above valleys that had come
Silence prevailed over valleys that seemed
To seem to their beholder like the vastest ocean deep.
To the beholder like a great abyss,
كذاكَlikewise أمّحتwere erased تلكthose الممرّاتُthe pathways بعدماafter
عليهاover them يدُthe hand of النسيانoblivion بالطبعِnaturally مرّتِpassed
Likewise, those pathways were erased after
Thus those paths faded after
The hand of oblivion had naturally passed over them.
The hand of oblivion touched them,
مرُوجٌmeadows وغاباتand forests ترَاءتcame into view وكلّهاand all of them
توَارَتwere hidden ورَاbehind أشباحِphantoms of أمنٍpeace جميلَةِbeautiful
Meadows and forests came into view, and all of them
Meadows and forests appeared and they all
Were hidden behind beautiful phantoms of peace.
Disappeared behind beautiful figments of tranquility,
كغيمِlike clouds of ربيعٍspring خلتهاI imagined them ببَياضهاin their whiteness
ومثلand like ضياthe light of شمسthe sun of الأصيلlate afternoon المنيرَةِradiant
In their whiteness, I thought them like clouds of spring,
Like the cloud of spring adorned with its whiteness,
And like the light of the radiant late-afternoon sun.
And like the light of the shining morning sun,
وحمراءand red كانتthey were مثلlike نورlight كأنهاas though they were
وشاحa scarf of مساءevening لاحَgleamed عندat العشيَّةِdusk
And red they were, like light, as though they were
And red like light as if it is
A scarf of evening that gleamed at dusk.
A sash of evening at sunset,
أغانيّsongs of أموَاجthe waves of البحورthe seas تضَعضعتfaltered
أغانيsongs of السواقيthe watercourses فيin الحقولthe fields اضمحلّتِfaded away
The songs of the seas' waves faltered;
The songs of the sea waves murmured,
The songs of the watercourses in the fields faded away.
The songs of streams in the fields withered,
هنالكthere كلّall الكائناتِbeings صَوامتٌsilent
وقدand had سكتَتfallen silent أصوَاتُthe voices of كلّall الخليقَةِcreation
There, all beings were silent,
Thereupon, all creatures fell silent
And the voices of all creation had fallen silent.
And the voices of all creation stilled,
وغيرand apart from أغانيthe songs of الخلدeternity ماnot عدتُI remained سامعاًhearing
تُرَافِقُهاaccompanies them رُوحٌa spirit هُناكَthere تَغَنّتِsang
And I no longer heard anything but the songs of eternity;
Except for the songs of eternity I heard no more,
A spirit accompanied them, singing there.
Accompanied by a soul singing there.
