Sol 6.1

  1. يَزيدَ الأَزدِ إِنَّ يَزيدَ قَومي

    سُمَيَّكَ لا يَجودُ كَما تَجودُ

    O Yazid of the Azd, indeed Yazid of my people—

    your namesake—does not give as generously as you do.

  2. يَقودُ جَماعَةً وَتَقودُ أُخرى

    فَتَرزُقُ مَن تَقودُ وَمَن يَقودُ

    He leads a group, and you lead another;

    so you provide for those you lead and those he leads.

  3. شبيهك في الولادة والتسمي

    ولكن لا يجود كما تجود

    He is like you in birth and name,

    but he does not give as generously as you do.

  4. فَما تِسعونَ يَحقِرُها ثَلاثٌ

    يُقيمُ حِسابَها رَجُلٌ شَديدُ

    For ninety, belittled by three,

    whose reckoning a stern man performs,

  5. وَكَفُّ شَثنَةٌ جُمِعَت لِوَجٍ

    بِأَنكَدَ من عَطائِكَ يا يَزيدُ

    and a rough palm clenched for a blow,

    are no more wretched than your gift, O Yazid.
