O Ajrad, I am weary of vain hopes

    and stingy talk of 'tomorrow.'

And indeed, my repeated visits for half a full year

to you, sons of Hind, weigh heavily upon me.

So let me not find myself, after a full year

and empty talk, with them complaining of me while I reproach them,

and seeking my affection and sympathy, after

Wa'il and Tamim have recited my verse to one another.

And if there is nothing but my repeated visits to you,

then I am a man who holds his honor dear.

So do not ruin what has been between me and you,

O sons of Qatan: the one at fault deserves blame.
