وَإِنّيand indeed I حَنىbent ظَهريmy back خُطوبٌmisfortunes تَتابَعَتfollowed one another
وَإِنّي حَنى ظَهري خُطوبٌ تَتابَعَت
فَمَشيِيَso my gait ضَعيفٌfeeble فيamong الرِجالِthe men دَبيبُa slow crawl
فَمَشيِيَ ضَعيفٌ في الرِجالِ دَبيبُ
And indeed, successive misfortunes have bent my back;
And my back is bent by sorrows following each other,
so my gait among men is feeble, a slow crawl.
So my walk is feeble among able men.

أَرى الشَخصَ كَالشَخصَينِ وَهوَ قَريبُ
When my companions say, “O Rabiʿ, do you not see?”
When my friends say: "O Rabee'! Do you not see?"
I see one person as two, though he is near.
I see one man as two though he be near.
