Have you strung pearls for me, or fashioned gold for me?

You have strung for me pearls, or have you forged for me gold?

Or have you set about drawing down the celestial spheres and shooting stars?

Or have you descended the stars and meteors?

يا أكرم الناس عهدا لست مبتعدا

يا أكرم الناس عهدا لست مبتعدا

وودك مني ظل مقتربا

وودك مني ظل مقتربا

O most honorable of people in keeping faith, you are not far away,

O most generous of people in keeping a covenant, you are not distant,

and your affection has remained close to me.

And your affection for me has remained close.

ملكت مني قلبا ليس يملكه

ملكت مني قلبا ليس يملكه

الا الأمين ابن حداد إذا انتسبا

الا الأمين ابن حداد إذا انتسبا

You have won a heart of mine that no one possesses

You have owned a heart that none can possess,

save al-Amin, son of Haddad, when he declares his lineage.

Except the Trustworthy son of Haddad, when he claims ancestry.

لو انصفوك لسموك ان اشعرهم

لو انصفوك لسموك ان اشعرهم

أليس جدك ناصيف كرمت أبا

أليس جدك ناصيف كرمت أبا

Had they done you justice, they would have called you, indeed, their finest poet.

If they were fair to you, they would name you, if I informed them -

Is not Nasif your grandfather? Noble are you in ancestry.

Is not your grandfather Nasif who honored the father?

بل انت نظام در الشعر ان نسبا

بل انت نظام در الشعر ان نسبا

بل انت منزل ايات إذا كتبا

بل انت منزل ايات إذا كتبا

Rather, you are a master stringer of poetry's pearls when you sing of love;

Rather you are Nu'man, a pearl in poetry, if attributed,

rather, you are a revealer of verses when you write.

Rather you are a receptacle of verses, if inscribed.
