    All praise for what you have done is little.

    Abundant thanks fall short, and lengthy thanks too.

    You have raised for truth a banner of virtue,

    and followed right guidance—what an excellent path!

    And you guided people toward right conduct,

    whom the ignorant enemy nearly led astray.

    ه ولولا كم لحل العويل

    So you kept vigil, while one I do not name slept;

    and, had it not been for you, wailing would have broken out.

    And you spared the blood of a people who hold

    a solemn covenant under Muslim protection.

    God bore witness that they are the closest of people

    to you in affection; and the Messenger

    said, “I contend against whoever harms them”—a saying [probable reading],

    with a chain of transmission, its truth unalterable.

    “And we have what you have”—a noble saying.

    Then this Qur'an and the Gospel

    سان لا بالفجور جاء التنزيل

    have enjoined righteousness, justice, and benevolence upon us;

    revelation came not with wickedness.

    That is the law of religions; may the All-Merciful show no mercy

    to a people whose claim is deception.

    What religion permits plunder and killing?

    And is that a reasonable doctrine?

    ما له في الاديان طرا دليل

    Whoever permits them both is an obstinate denier, an ingrate;

    he has no proof in any religion whatsoever.

    O guardians of the sanctuary, you have bound my tongue

    with beneficent hands to which we offer kisses.

    O guardians of the sanctuary, through you health returned to the body of

    justice, which had long been ailing.

    هكذا يحرس الخليل الخليل

    This is the custom of all the noble;

    thus does a friend guard a friend.
