Our deputies, when through us
Our representatives, when they
they climbed the ladder to high rank—
Ascended to the highest ranks, became refined.
للهby God! ماذاwhat قدindeed لقيsuffered (continued by نا)
لله ماذا قد لقي
ناwe (completes لقينا) منهمfrom them وماand what لقواthey suffered
نا منهم وما لقوا
by God, what have we suffered
What hardships we received from them,
at their hands, and what have they suffered?
And what fortunes they obtained!
قدindeed صمتواthey kept silent عنabout حقناour rights
قد صمتوا عن حقنا
دهراfor an age كأنas though لمnot يخلقواthey were created
دهرا كأن لم يخلقوا
They have kept silent about our rights
They were silent about our rights
for an age, as though they had never been created.
For so long, as if they were never created.
ومذand once دررواprobably 'learned' (text unclear) انthat لهمfor them
ومذ درروا ان لهم
بعضsome الكلامspeech مطلقunrestricted
بعض الكلام مطلق
And once they learned that they had
And when they realized they could
some freedom to speak,
Speak some unrestrained words,
قدindeed نطقواthey spoke لنحسناto our misfortune
قد نطقوا لنحسنا
ياoh ليتهمwould that they لمnot ينطقواthey had spoken
يا ليتهم لم ينطقوا
they spoke—to our misfortune.
They spoke to do us good -
Oh, would that they had never spoken!
Would that they had not spoken!
