نَعَبَcroaked الغُرابُthe crow بِبَينِof the parting of لَيلىLayla غَدوَةًearly in the morning
نَعَبَ الغُرابُ بِبَينِ لَيلى غَدوَةً
إِنَّindeed الكِتابَthe decree بِبَينَهُمconcerning their parting مَخطوطاwritten
إِنَّ الكِتابَ بِبَينَهُم مَخطوطا
The crow croaked of Layla’s parting at dawn.
The raven croaked at the ruins of Layla's home one morning
Indeed, the decree concerning their parting is written.
Indeed, the book of their fate was already written
أَصبَحتُI have become مِنfrom أَهليmy kin الَّذينَwhom أُحِبُهُمI love them
أَصبَحتُ مِن أَهلي الَّذينَ أُحِبُهُم
كَالسَهمِlike an arrow أَصبَحَhas become ريشَهُits feathers مَمروطاplucked bare
كَالسَهمِ أَصبَحَ ريشَهُ مَمروطا
Away from my kin, whom I love, I have become
I have become like my loved ones whom I cherish
like an arrow whose feathers have been plucked bare.
Like an arrow whose feathers are all torn
