O pilgrims to God's house, in which valley
And in which of your curtained chambers is my heart?
And in which of your encampments is my heart?

Shall I remain love's captive in a land of exile,
Shall I remain love's captive in an alien land
While your camel-driver leads my heart with song in the caravan?
While your camel driver urges on my heart among the throng?

And many an exile in the meadow weeps in his sorrow,
An exile at the meadow weeping in his yearning
While those who comfort him in love are absent from him.
While those who shared his love have passed beyond his reach.

Whenever the caravan comes to him from the direction of his homeland,
When the caravan approaches from the direction of his land
He breathes in, seeking healing in the caravan's scent.
He breathes again, drawing relief from the caravan's scent.
