لَمnot تَزَلcease مُقلَتيmy eye تَفيضُoverflows بِدَمعِwith tears
لَم تَزَل مُقلَتي تَفيضُ بِدَمعِ
مِثلِlike الغُيوثِthe downpours مُذsince فَقَدَتهاI lost her
مِثلِ الغُيوثِ مُذ فَقَدَتها
My eye has never ceased to overflow with tears,
My tear ducts still overflow since you left
like downpours, since I lost her.
Like heavy rains that pour down without rest
مُقلَةٌan eye دَمعُهاits tears حَثيثٌswift وَأُخرىand another
مُقلَةٌ دَمعُها حَثيثٌ وَأُخرى
كُلَّماwhenever جَفَّdried دَمعُهاits tears أَسعَدَتهاjoined it in weeping
كُلَّما جَفَّ دَمعُها أَسعَدَتها
One eye's tears flow swiftly; the other
One eye sheds tears that flow swift and fast
joins it in weeping whenever its tears run dry.
The other dries up hoping the pain's past
ماnot جَرَتflowed هَذِهِthis one عَلىon الخَدِّthe cheek حَتّىuntil
ما جَرَت هَذِهِ عَلى الخَدِّ حَتّى
لَحِقَتcaught up تِلكَthat one بِالَّتيwith the one that سَبَقَتهاpreceded it
لَحِقَت تِلكَ بِالَّتي سَبَقَتها
No sooner does this one flow down the cheek
No sooner does a teardrop cease to flow
than that one catches up with the one before it.
Than the next begins, adding to my woe
دَمعَةٌa tear بَعدَafter دَمعَةٍa tear فَإِذاand when ماemphatic particle
دَمعَةٌ بَعدَ دَمعَةٍ فَإِذا ما
لَحَقَتcaught up with تِلكَthat one هَذِهِthis one أَحدَرَتهاmade it flow down
لَحَقَت تِلكَ هَذِهِ أَحدَرَتها
Tear after tear; and whenever
Tear after tear rolls down my cheeks' incline
that one catches up with this one, it sends it down.
