كَفىis enough حَزَناًsorrow أَنَّthat الغِنىwealth مُتَعَذِّرٌunattainable
كَفى حَزَناً أَنَّ الغِنى مُتَعَذِّرٌ
عَلَيَّfor me وَأَنّيand that I بِالمَكارِمِwith noble deeds مُغرَمُenamored
عَلَيَّ وَأَنّي بِالمَكارِمِ مُغرَمُ
It is sorrow enough that wealth is unattainable
Enough of sorrow that wealth is out of reach
for me, while I am enamored of noble deeds.
And that I am enamored of noble deeds
فَماfor ... not قَصَّرَتfell short بيfor me فيin المَطالِبِpursuits هِمَّةٌambition
فَما قَصَّرَت بي في المَطالِبِ هِمَّةٌ
وَلَكِنَّنيbut I أَسعىstrive إِلَيهاtoward them وَأُحرَمُand I am denied
وَلَكِنَّني أَسعى إِلَيها وَأُحرَمُ
For my ambition has not failed me in my pursuits,
My ambitions did not fall short in their quest
yet I strive for them and am denied them.
Yet I strive for them though I am deprived
