فَإِن كانَ فيكُم بَعلُ لَيلى فَإِنَّني

فَإِن كانَ فيكُم بَعلُ لَيلى فَإِنَّني

وَذي العَرشِ قَد قَبَّلتُ فاها ثَمانِيا

وَذي العَرشِ قَد قَبَّلتُ فاها ثَمانِيا

If Layla's husband is among you, then indeed I—

If among you is Layla's husband, then I swear

by the Lord of the Throne—have kissed her mouth eight times.

By Him who rules the Throne, that I kissed her mouth eight times

وَأَشهَدُ عِندَ اللَهِ أَنّي رَأَيتُها

وَأَشهَدُ عِندَ اللَهِ أَنّي رَأَيتُها

وَعُشرونَ مِنها إِصبَعاً مِن وَرائِيا

وَعُشرونَ مِنها إِصبَعاً مِن وَرائِيا

And I testify before God that I saw her,

And I bear witness before God that I saw her

with twenty of her fingers and toes behind me.

With twenty fingers behind me

أَلَيسَ مِنَ البَلوى الَّتي لا شَوى لَها

أَلَيسَ مِنَ البَلوى الَّتي لا شَوى لَها

بِأَن زُوِّجَت كَلباً وَما بُذِلَت لِيا

بِأَن زُوِّجَت كَلباً وَما بُذِلَت لِيا

Is it not a calamity, no trifling matter,

Is it not a misfortune that has no remedy

that she was married off to a dog and not given to me?
