مُنِعتُI was prevented عَنِfrom التَسليمِoffering a greeting يَومَon the day of وَداعِهاfarewell to her
مُنِعتُ عَنِ التَسليمِ يَومَ وَداعِها
فَوَدَّعتُهاso I bade her farewell بِالطَرفِwith the gaze وَالعَينُand the eye تَدمَعُsheds tears
فَوَدَّعتُها بِالطَرفِ وَالعَينُ تَدمَعُ
I was barred from greeting her on the day of her farewell;
I was forbidden from saying farewell on the day of her departure
so I bade her farewell with my gaze, while my eye shed tears.
So I bid her goodbye with my eyes full of tears
وَأُخرِستُand I was struck dumb عَنfrom رَدِّgiving back الجَوابِthe reply فَمَنso who رَأىhas seen
وَأُخرِستُ عَن رَدِّ الجَوابِ فَمَن رَأى
مُحِبّاًa lover بِدَمعِwith the tears of العَينِthe eye قَلباًa heart يُوَدِّعُbids farewell to
مُحِبّاً بِدَمعِ العَينِ قَلباً يُوَدِّعُ
And I was struck dumb, unable to reply—who has ever seen
And I was silenced from responding back so whoever saw
a lover bidding a heart farewell with the tears of his eye?
A lover with teary eyes bidding farewell to a heart
