بِناwith us بَينَbetween المُنيفَةِal-Munifah فَالضِمارِand al-Dimar
I say to my companion, as the pale camels speed
I say to my friend as the evening descends upon us
With us between al-Munifah and al-Dimar:
Let's enjoy ourselves here between the sand dunes
تَمَتَّعsavor مِنfrom شَميمِthe fragrance عَرارِarar blossoms نَجدٍNajd
فَماfor there is no بَعدَafter العَشيَّةِthe evening مِنany عَرارِarar
Savor the fragrance of Najd's arar blossoms,
Breathe in the fragrant breeze of Najd
For after this evening there will be no arar.
For after dusk, there is no Najd breeze
Najd
وَرَيّاand the fragrance رَوضِهِof its meadows غِبَّafter القُطارِthe rain
Ah, how lovely are the breezes of Najd,
Oh, blessed are the winds of Najd
And the fragrance of its meadows after rain,
And the meadows lush without rain showers
وَأَهلُكَand your people إِذwhen يَحِلُّcamps الحَيَّthe tribe نَجداًin Najd
وَأَنتَand you عَلىagainst زَمانِكَyour times غَيرَnot زارٍfinding fault
And your people, when the tribe camps in Najd,
While your family arrives as summer settles on Najd
While you find no fault with your times.
Yet you remain in your time, sad and cheerless
شُهورٌmonths يَنقَضينَpass وَماand not شَعُرناwe noticed
بِأَنصافٍof midpoints لَهُنَّof theirs وَلاnor سَرارِmoonless month-ends
Months pass, and we do not notice
Months pass by without us noticing
Their midpoints or their moonless final nights.
As if they were but fleeting moments
فَأَمّاso as for لَيلُهُنَّtheir nights فَخَيرُthen the finest لَيلٍnight
وَأَطوَلُand longer ماwhat يَكونُcan be مِنَthan النَهارِthe day
As for their nights, they are the finest of nights,
The nights are the best of nights
And longer than any day could be.
And longer than any day can be
