حَجَجتُI made the pilgrimage وَلَمand did not أَحجِجI make the pilgrimage لِذَنبٍfor a sin جَنَيتُهُI committed it
وَلَكِنbut rather لِتُعديso that You may aid ليfor me عَلىagainst قاطِعِone who severs الحَبلِthe cord
I made the pilgrimage, not for a sin I had committed,
I made pilgrimage, but not for any sin I committed,
But so that You might aid me against the one who severed the cord.
Rather so You would restore me after the severing.
ذَهَبتَYou went away بِعَقليwith my reason فيin هَواهاlove for her صَغيرَةًwhen she was young
وَقَدand indeed كَبِرَتhas advanced سِنّيmy age فَرُدَّso restore بِهاthrough her عَقليmy reason
You took away my reason in love for her when she was young.
You took my mind in her love when she was young,
And now my age has advanced; restore my reason through her.
Now I am old, return my mind to me.
وَإِلّاand if not فَساوِthen equalize الحُبَّthe love بَينيbetween me وَبَينَهاand between her
فَإِنَّكَfor You indeed ياO مَولايَmy Lord تَحكُمُYou judge بِالعَدلِwith justice
Otherwise, make love equal between me and her,
Otherwise, make love equal between her and I,
For You, O my Lord, judge with justice.
For You, my Master, judge with justice.
