أَبوسُI kiss تُرابَdust رِجلَكِyour foot ياO لِوَيليLuwayli
وَلَولاand were it not for ذاكَthat لاnot أُدعىI am called مُصاباafflicted
I kiss the dust at your feet, O Luwayli.
I kiss the dust of your feet, oh my sorrow
And were it not for that, I would not be called afflicted.
If not for that, I would not be called afflicted
وَماand not بَوسِkissing التُرابِthe dust لِحُبِّfor love of أَرضِearth
وَلَكِنbut حُبُّlove مَنthe one who وَطِئَtrod upon التُرابَthe dust
And kissing the dust is not for love of the earth,
It is not for love of the dust itself
But for love of the one who trod upon the dust.
But love of the one who walked on the dust
جُنِنتُI went mad بِهاfor her وَقَدand already أَصبَحتُI have become فيهاin loving her
مُحِبّاًa lover أَستَطيبُI find sweet بِهاbecause of her العَذاباthe torment
I have gone mad for her, and in loving her have become
I am mad for her, and have become with her
A lover who finds torment sweet because of her.
A lover who finds torment pleasant
وَلازَمتُand I kept to القِفارَthe wilderness بِكُلِّin every أَرضٍland
وَعَيشيand my life بِالوُحوشِamong wild beasts نَماflourished وَطاباand grew sweet
And I have kept to the wilderness in every land,
I have frequented the deserted places in every land
And my life among wild beasts has flourished and grown sweet.
And lived with beasts, slept and lived pleasantly
