دَعَوتُI called upon إِلَهيmy God دَعوَةًa prayer ماnot جَهِلتَهاyou were unaware of it
دَعَوتُ إِلَهي دَعوَةً ما جَهِلتَها
وَرَبّيand my Lord بِماof what تَخفىconceal الصُدورُthe breasts بَصيرُall-seeing
وَرَبّي بِما تَخفى الصُدورُ بَصيرُ
I called upon my God with a prayer you were not unaware of;
I called on my God a call He knew not of
And my Lord sees what breasts conceal.
And my Lord is seeing of what hearts conceal
لَإِنif indeed كانَis يُهدىbestowed بَردَthe coolness أَنيابِهاof her canine teeth العُلاupper
لَإِن كانَ يُهدى بَردَ أَنيابِها العُلا
لِأَفقَرَto someone poorer مِنّيthan me إِنَّنيindeed I لَفَقيرُam surely poor
لِأَفقَرَ مِنّي إِنَّني لَفَقيرُ
If the coolness of her upper teeth is bestowed
If the cooling of their fangs is guided aright
On someone poorer than I, then I am poor indeed.
By it, I'm poorer than the poorest wretch
فَقَدfor indeed شاعَتِhave spread الأَخبارُthe reports أَنthat قَدalready تَزَوَّجَتshe has married
فَقَد شاعَتِ الأَخبارُ أَن قَد تَزَوَّجَت
فَهَلso will يَأتِيَنّيsurely come to me بِالطَلاقِwith news of divorce بَشيرُa bearer of glad tidings
فَهَل يَأتِيَنّي بِالطَلاقِ بَشيرُ
For news has spread that she has married;
Rumors have spread that you have wed
So will a bearer of glad tidings come to me with news of divorce?
Will any herald bring me news of divorce?
