أَياO مُهدِياًbringing نَفيَbanishment الحَبيبِthe beloved صَبيحَةًone morning
بِمَنagainst whom وَإِلىand to مَنwhom جِئتُماyou two have come تَشِيانِyou two bear tales
O you two bringing about the beloved’s banishment one morning,
Against whom, and to whom, have you two come bearing tales?
بِمَنagainst one whom لَوif أَراهُI saw him عانِياًcaptive لَفَدَيتُهُI would surely ransom him
وَمَنand one who لَوif رَآنيhe saw me عانِياًcaptive لَفَدانيhe would surely ransom me
Against one whom I would surely ransom if I saw him captive,
and who would surely ransom me if he saw me captive.
فَمَنwho, then مُبلِغٌwill convey عَنّيfrom me الحَبيبَthe beloved رِسالَةًa message
بِأَنَّthat فُؤاديmy heart دائِمُunceasing in الخَفَقانِthrobbing
Who, then, will carry a message from me to the beloved,
that my heart is ceaselessly throbbing,
وَأَنِّيَand that I am مَمنوعٌdeprived مِنَof النَومِsleep مُدنَفٌwasted by illness
وَعَينايَand my two eyes مِنfrom وَجدِanguish الأَسىsorrow تَكِفانِboth shed tears
and that I am deprived of sleep, wasted by illness,
and my eyes shed tears from sorrow’s anguish?
