وَإِنّي عَلى لَيلى الغُداةَ أَمينُ
A time went by when people did not trust me,
yet this morning I am trustworthy with Layla.

They call me the madman when they see me;
yes, this morning I have a madness born of Layla.

Nights when youth and ardor took pride in me,
and when life's ease had left a softness in me.
