وَإِنّي لِنارٍ دونَها رَملُ عالِجٍ

وَإِنّي لِنارٍ دونَها رَملُ عالِجٍ

عَلى ما بِعَيني مِن قَذىً لَبَصيرُ

عَلى ما بِعَيني مِن قَذىً لَبَصيرُ

And indeed, a fire beyond the sands of ʿĀlij

I see clearly, despite the grit in my eye.

كَأَنَّ نَسيمَ الريحِ حينَ يُنيرُها

كَأَنَّ نَسيمَ الريحِ حينَ يُنيرُها

كَنَجمِ خَفِيٍّ في الظَلامِ يُنيرُ

كَنَجمِ خَفِيٍّ في الظَلامِ يُنيرُ

As though the breath of wind, when it makes the fire glow,

were like a faint star shining in the darkness.

مَتى تُذكَري لِلقَلبِ يَنهَض بِرَوعَةٍ

مَتى تُذكَري لِلقَلبِ يَنهَض بِرَوعَةٍ

جَناحُ الهَوى حَتّى يَكادُ يَطيرُ

جَناحُ الهَوى حَتّى يَكادُ يَطيرُ

Whenever you are mentioned to the heart, there rises with a start

the wing of love, until it almost takes flight.
