Hark, O heart, that has persisted, wandering love-mad
Ah, O heart that persisted, madly in love,
for Layla since infancy, before your amulets were cut away.
with Layla since infancy, before its amulets were cut off.

Come to your senses: lovers have recovered, and the time has come
Come to your senses! Lovers have come to theirs, and the time has come
for you today to find a healer who accords with you.
for you today to meet a physician with whom you are in accord.

What ails you, robbed of every solace, as though
What ails you, then, bereft of solace, as though
you deemed Layla’s distance a debt that you must pay?
you see Layla's distance as a debt you must pay?

Truly, can no calamity make you forget Layla—
none that befalls, nor any age, however long its passing?
one that befalls you—nor any long lapse of time?
