عَجِبتُI marvel لِعُروَةَat ʿUrwah العُذريَّal-ʿUdhri أَمسىhe has become
عَجِبتُ لِعُروَةَ العُذريَّ أَمسى
أَحاديثاًtales لِقَومٍfor a people بَعدَafter قَومِa people
أَحاديثاً لِقَومٍ بَعدَ قَومِ
I marvel at ʿUrwah al-ʿUdhri, who has become
The subject of tales among one people after another.
وَعُروَةُand ʿUrwah ماتَdied مَوتاًa death مُستَريحاًat rest
وَعُروَةُ ماتَ مَوتاً مُستَريحاً
وَهاأَنَذاand here I am أَموتُI die بِكُلِّon every يَومِday
وَهاأَنَذا أَموتُ بِكُلِّ يَومِ
And ʿUrwah died a restful death,
While here I am, dying every day.
