وَلَوand if أَنَّنيthat I إِذwhen حانَarrived وَقتُthe time حِمامِهاher death
وَلَو أَنَّني إِذ حانَ وَقتُ حِمامِها
أُحَكِّمُI exercise control فيover عُمريmy lifespan لَقاسَمتُهاI would have shared with her عُمريmy lifespan
أُحَكِّمُ في عُمري لَقاسَمتُها عُمري
And had I, when the hour of her death came,
And if when her time of death drew near,
had control over my lifespan, I would have shared my lifespan with her.
I could have ransomed her with my life,
فَحَلَّthen befell بِناupon us الفُقدانُloss فيin ساعَةٍan hour مَعاًtogether
فَحَلَّ بِنا الفُقدانُ في ساعَةٍ مَعاً
فَمُتُّthen I died وَلاand not تَدريshe knows وَماتَتand she died وَلاand not أَدريI know
فَمُتُّ وَلا تَدري وَماتَت وَلا أَدري
Then loss would have befallen us together in a single hour,
Loss befell us both at the same hour-
And I would have died without her knowing, and she would have died without my knowing.
I died, knowing naught, and she died, knowing naught.
