Ah, O doves of the grove, you have set my tears flowing,

And indeed their torrent has cried out over both cheeks.

And you have kindled fires in my heart, and indeed I

Endure terrors whose briefest span is long.

Do you mourn a companion whose distance has melted you away,

And scatter tears whose copious flow may pour forth?

You have indeed stirred what lay still within me at your lament,

And you have kindled a fire whose blaze burns within my heart.

Peace be upon you—not the greeting of one bidding farewell.

And you are my soul's hopes, and you are its joy.

For your love abides in my heart, pictured there,

And your love lies in my inward parts, at their inmost heart.

So you are my heart's hopes, my wish, and my desire,

And you are the radiance of my right eye and its light.
