إِذاwhen خِفناwe fear مِنَamong الرُقَباءِthe watchers عَيناًan eye
إِذا خِفنا مِنَ الرُقَباءِ عَيناً
تَكَلَمَتِspoke العُيونِthe eyes عَنِon behalf of القُلوبِthe hearts
تَكَلَمَتِ العُيونِ عَنِ القُلوبِ
Whenever we fear an eye among the watchers,
When we fear a watcher's eye,
The eyes speak on behalf of the hearts.
The eyes speak on behalf of the hearts.
وَفيand in غَمرِthe depths of الجَوانِحِthe ribs (the breast) مُستَراحٌa place of rest
وَفي غَمرِ الجَوانِحِ مُستَراحٌ
لِحاجاتِfor the needs of المُحِبِّthe lover إِلىtoward الحَبيبِthe beloved
لِحاجاتِ المُحِبِّ إِلى الحَبيبِ
And deep within the breast lies a place of repose
And in the depths of the breast is a refuge
For the lover’s needs toward the beloved.
For the lover's longings for the beloved.
