كَيفَhow يُخفيconceals اللَيلُthe night بَدراًa full moon طَلَعاhas risen
A moon whose light betrayed him.
The moon whose light has spread upon him
How can the night conceal a full moon that has risen?
How can the night conceal a rising full moon?
رَصَدَwatched for الخَلوَةَseclusion حَتّىuntil أَمكَنَتbecame possible
وَرَعىand watched الساهِرَthe wakeful one حَتّىuntil هَجَعاfell asleep
He watched for seclusion until it became possible,
He watched solitude until it enabled him
And watched the wakeful one until he fell asleep.
And kept vigil until it slept
رَكِبَbraved الأَخطارَthe dangers فيon زَورَتِهِhis visit
ثُمَّthen ماnot سَلَّمَoffered greetings حَتّىuntil وَدَّعاbade farewell
He braved dangers on his visit,
He rode dangers in their visits
Then, no sooner had he said hello than he bade farewell.
Then did not bid farewell until he bade them adieu
