حَبَّbecame dear إِلَيناto us بِكَthrough you ياO جَرادُlocusts
أَرضُa land وَإِنand though جاعَتgrew hungry بِكَbecause of you الأَكبادُthe livers
Through you, O locusts, we have come to love
We have come to love you, O locust
a land, though because of you our livers have gone hungry;
Though you make the land hungry, and hearts ache
وَضاقَتِand grew narrow الأَصدارُthe departures from water وَالأَورادُand the arrivals at water
وَلَمand not يَكُنthere was قَبلُbefore لَناfor us عَتادُsupplies
and the ways from and to water have narrowed;
Though you tighten chests and provisions
and before, we had no supplies,
When before we had no gear
وَلاand not لِأَبناءِfor the sons of السَبيلِthe road (wayfarers) زادُprovisions
nor did wayfarers have provisions.
Nor travelers any supplies
