And many a lonely man has not spent the evening in a foreign land,

Yet he is a stranger to those he loves.

When he seeks to conceal his love, his tears betray him.

Ah, then, for a grieving man whom a healer has forsaken!

Ah, O house that I do not visit,

And my forsaking it amounts to sins against you.

I forsook you in longing and visited you in fear,

And a watcher from within me forever keeps watch on me concerning you.

Peace upon the dwelling that I do not visit,

Even though someone dear to me dwells in it.
