شَفَيتُI healed النَفسَthe soul مِنfrom حَمَلِHamal بنِson of بَدرٍBadr
شَفَيتُ النَفسَ مِن حَمَلِ بنِ بَدرٍ
وَسَيفيand my sword مِنfrom حُذَيفَةَHudhayfa قَدindeed شَفانيhealed me
وَسَيفي مِن حُذَيفَةَ قَد شَفاني
I healed my soul by taking vengeance on Hamal ibn Badr,
I have relieved my soul of the burden of the sons of Badr
and my sword has healed me by taking vengeance on Hudhayfa.
And my sword of Hudhayfa has healed me
فَإِنso if أَكُI am قَدindeed بَرَدتُI cooled بِهِمthrough them غَليليmy burning thirst
فَإِن أَكُ قَد بَرَدتُ بِهِم غَليلي
فَلَمthen I did not أَقطَعcut off بِهِمthrough them إِلّاexcept بَنانيmy fingers
فَلَم أَقطَع بِهِم إِلّا بَناني
So if I have indeed cooled my burning thirst through them,
So if I have cooled with them my raging thirst
I have thereby cut off nothing but my own fingers.
With them I have severed only the tips of my fingers
