By your life, the sons of Ziyad have not neglected
By your life! The sons of Ziyad
Their father's honor, as others neglect theirs.
Did not let the glory of their father fade,

Sons of a jinn-woman who gave birth to swords,
The sons of Jinniyya bore swords,
Keen-edged, each one male and finely forged.
All resolute blades of skillful make.

And their woman-neighbor is chaste, never to be defiled,
Their neighbor, an inviolate mare,
And well-fed in winter, so she never goes hungry.
Well-fed in winter, never goes hungry.

From afar, my love and gratitude were bought
My love and gratitude from afar
By Rabiʿ, forever, for Ghalib's line to its last.
To the ever-victorious Spring!
