إِنif كُنتِyou were حاوَلتِyou sought الدَراهِمَthe dirhams فَاِنكِحيthen marry
إِن كُنتِ حاوَلتِ الدَراهِمَ فَاِنكِحي
سِماكاSimak أَخاa brother of الأَنصارِthe Ansar أَوor اِبنَthe son of فَرقَدِFarqad
سِماكا أَخا الأَنصارِ أَو اِبنَ فَرقَدِ
If it is dirhams you sought, then marry
If you seek wealth, then marry
Simak, a brother of the Ansar, or the son of Farqad.

وَإِنand if كُنتِyou were حاوَلتِyou sought الطِعانَspear combat فيمميthen turn toward
وَإِن كُنتِ حاوَلتِ الطِعانَ فيممي
بُكَيراًBukayr إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle الخَيلُthe horses جالَتwheeled عَنِaway from الرَديdeath
بُكَيراً إِذا ما الخَيلُ جالَت عَنِ الرَدي
And if it is spear combat you sought, then turn toward
And if you seek glory, then choose
Bukayr, when the horses wheel away from death.
Bukayr, when the horses dart from the fray
وَكُلُّهُمand all of them فيat ذَروَةِthe summit of المَجدِglory نازِلٌdwelling
وَكُلُّهُم في ذَروَةِ المَجدِ نازِلٌ
فَشَأنُكُمso the choice is yours إِنَّindeed البَيانَthe explanation عَنِabout الغَدِtomorrow
فَشَأنُكُم إِنَّ البَيانَ عَنِ الغَدِ
And each of them dwells at the summit of glory.
For all are at the peak of glory
So the choice is yours; indeed, the explanation concerns tomorrow.
But eloquence comes from effort each day
