And we held back our horses at Nahavand
for the onslaught of nights brought forth for the non-Arabs.

So we confronted them—[the remaining wording is unclear as supplied].
on the morning of Nahavand, for one of the great ordeals.

We filled ravines at Nahavand with them—
men and horses, ablaze with flames.

And al-Fayruzan raced alongside them over the smooth rock,
but the breadth of the mountain passes did not save him from us.
