وَافلتهُنَّand he escaped them المُسحَلانِal-Musḥalān وَقَدand already رَأىhe saw
بِعَينَيهِwith his own two eyes نَقعاًdust ساطِعاًrising قَدalready تَكَوثَراhad grown dense
And al-Musḥalān escaped them, having seen
He let them drink from the flowing streams, and saw
With his own eyes a rising cloud of dust that had grown dense.
With his own eyes a shining marsh where they multiplied,
وَيَوماًand one day عَلىat ماءِthe water of البَزاخَةِal-Bazākha خالِدٌKhālid
أَثارَhe stirred up بِهاin it فيamid هَبوَةِthe dust haze of المَوتِdeath عِثيَراdust
And one day at the water of al-Bazākha, Khālid
And one day by the Bazakha's water Khaled
Stirred up dust there amid the haze of death.
Stirred up with it in the gust of death abundant confusion,
وَمَثَّلَand he mutilated فيon حافاتِهاits fringes كُلَّevery مَثلَةٍmutilation
كَفِعلِlike the deed of كِلابٍdogs هارَشَتfought one another ثُمَّthen شَمَّراhe hastened on
And on its fringes he inflicted every kind of mutilation,
And on its banks he exemplified every kind of mutilation
Like dogs that fought one another; then he hastened on.
As dogs would do, biting then baring their teeth.
