وَفُرسٍ غَمَّها طولُ السَلامِ
At al-Firad we met hosts of Romans
At Al-Firaz we met hordes of Romans,
And Persians, whom prolonged peace had distressed.
And Persians, worn down by protracted truce.

وَبَيَّتنا بِجَمعِ بَني رِزامِ
We annihilated their host when we met,
We mustered all our forces when we met them,
And we attacked by night with the host of Banu Rizam.
And bivouacked with the Banu Rizam.

رَأَينا القَومَ كَالغَنمِ السَوامِ
So the forces of peace did not relent until
Not for an instant did the peace troops rest
We saw the people like grazing sheep.
Until we made those hordes like docile sheep.
