بِصَحنِ نَهاوَندَ الَّتي قَد أَمَرَّتِ
They brought down heads that once stood upright,
They demolished the citadels after their glory
On the open plain of Nahawand, which had grown bitter,
With the basin of Nahavand which had become bitter

With every soft, flowing, gushing channel
Which, when driven hard, did not bend but pressed on,
If forced, it would not bend, but went on

And a white Indian-steel sword of iron’s liquid essence,
Whiter than tempered steel water
And a yellow bow of nabʿ wood, when it rang out.
More yellow than a spring when it sounds
