وَهَل عالمٌ شَيئاً وَآخَرُ جاهِلُ
Ask Taghlib about us on the day of al-Musayyakh.
The inquirer asked us on the day of assembly for conquest
And is one who knows something like another who is ignorant?
And is there a scholar who knows something and another ignorant?
طَرقناهُمُwe raided them by night فيهِin it طَروقاًa night raid فَأَصبَحواso by morning they became

أَحاديثَ في أَفناءِ تِلكَ القَبائِلِ
We raided them there by night, and by morning they became
We made them stumble and stagger, so they became
Tales in the quarters of those tribes.
Tales in the courtyards of those tribes,
وَفيهِمand among them إِيادٌIyad وَالنُمورُand al-Numur وَكُلُّهُمand all of them
وَفيهِم إِيادٌ وَالنُمورُ وَكُلُّهُم

أَصاخَ لما قَد عَزَّهُم لِلزَّلازِلِ
And among them were Iyad and al-Numur, and all of them
Among them Eyyad and the tigers, all of them
Listened to the tremors when they had been overpowered.
Roared at what had made them dear to tremors
