My soul has clung to hers since before our creation,

And after we were drops of seed, and in the cradle.

    فَلَيسَ وَإِن مُتنا بِمُنفَصِمِ العَهدِ

    So it grew as we grew, and flourished;

So even if we die, its bond will not be broken.

But it endures through all that happens,

And visits us in the darkness of the grave and burial niche.

The water's bubbles almost scratch her skin

When she bathes in water, because her skin is so delicate.

And indeed I long for the scent of her garment's neckline,

As Idris longed for the Garden of Eternity.

And even if she wore a garment made wholly of roses,

The rose petals would surely scratch her skin.

Wearing silk weighs her down, so delicate is she,

And she complains to her neighbors of the necklace's weight.

And I pity her cheeks whenever I glance at her,

For fear that my glance might leave a mark on her cheek.
