إِنif تَكُbe لُبنىLubna قَدalready أَتىhas come دونَbarring قَربِهاnearness to her
إِن تَكُ لُبنى قَد أَتى دونَ قَربِها
حِجابٌa barrier مَنيعٌimpregnable ماno إِلَيهِto it سَبيلُa way
حِجابٌ مَنيعٌ ما إِلَيهِ سَبيلُ
If nearness to Lubna has been barred
by an impregnable barrier with no way through,
فَإِنَّthen indeed نَسيمَthe breeze الجَوِّthe air يَجمَعُbrings together بَينَناbetween us
فَإِنَّ نَسيمَ الجَوِّ يَجمَعُ بَينَنا
وَنُبصِرُand we see قَرنَthe rim الشَمسِthe sun حينَwhen تَزولُit declines
وَنُبصِرُ قَرنَ الشَمسِ حينَ تَزولُ
still the breeze of the air brings us together,
and we see the sun’s rim as it declines.
وَأَرواحُناand our souls بِاللَيلِat night فيin الحَيِّthe encampment تَلتَقيmeet
وَأَرواحُنا بِاللَيلِ في الحَيِّ تَلتَقي
وَنَعلَمُand we know أَنّاthat we بِالنَهارِby day نَقيلُtake our midday rest
وَنَعلَمُ أَنّا بِالنَهارِ نَقيلُ
And our souls meet at night in the encampment,
and we know that by day we take our midday rest.
وَتَجمَعُناand gathers us الأَرضُthe earth القَرارُthe resting place وَفَوقَناand above us
وَتَجمَعُنا الأَرضُ القَرارُ وَفَوقَنا
سَماءٌa sky نَرىwe see فيهاin it النُجومَthe stars تَجولُroam
سَماءٌ نَرى فيها النُجومَ تَجولُ
And the earth, our resting place, gathers us, and above us
is a sky in which we see the stars roam,
إِلىuntil أَنthat يَعودَbecomes again الدَهرُtime سَلماًpeaceful وَتَنقَضيand come to an end
إِلى أَن يَعودَ الدَهرُ سَلماً وَتَنقَضي
تِراتٌgrudges بَغاهاit pursued them عِندَناagainst us وَذُحولُand blood-feuds
تِراتٌ بَغاها عِندَنا وَذُحولُ
until time is peaceful again, and an end comes to
the grudges it has pursued against us, and the blood-feuds.
