وَلَقَدand indeed أَرَدتُI sought الصَبرَpatience عَنكِwithout you فَعاقَنيbut hindered me
عَلَقٌan attachment بِقَلبيin my heart مِنfrom هَواكِlove for you قَديمُlong-standing
Indeed, I tried to endure without you, but was thwarted
by an old attachment in my heart, born of love for you.
يَبقىit endures عَلىdespite حَدَثِthe calamities of الزَمانِtime وَرَيبِهِand its vicissitudes
وَعَلىand despite جَفائِكِyour coldness إِنَّهُindeed it is لَكَريمُsurely noble
It endures the calamities and vicissitudes of time,
and your coldness too; indeed, it is noble.
فَصَرَمتِهِso you severed it وَصَحَحتِand you recovered وَهوَwhile it is بِدائِهِwith its illness
شَتّانَhow far apart بَينَbetween مُصَحَّحٍone restored to health وَسَقيمُand one sick
So you severed it and recovered, while it remained ill;
how far apart are the healthy and the sick!
وارَبتِهِyou deceived it زَمَناًfor a time فَعاذَso it sought refuge بِحِلمِهِin its forbearance
إِنَّindeed المُحِبَّthe lover عَنِtoward الحَبيبِthe beloved حَليمُforbearing
You deceived it for a time, then it sought refuge in its forbearance.
Indeed, the lover is forbearing toward the beloved.
