هَبينيconsider me اِمرَأًa man إِنif تُحسِنىyou show kindness فَهوَthen he is شاكِرٌgrateful
لِذاكَfor that وَإِنand if لَمnot تُحسِنيyou show kindness فَهوَthen he is صافِحُforgiving
Consider me a man who, if you treat him kindly, is grateful
For that, and if you do not, is forgiving.
وَإِنand if يَكُthere are أَقوامٌpeople رَساؤواunclear; probably acted badly وَأَهجَرواand spoke abusively
فَإِنَّfor indeed الَّذيthat which بَينيbetween me وَبَينَكِand between you صالِحُsound
And though some people have [done wrong] and spoken abusively,
Still, what lies between you and me is sound.
وَمَهماand whatever يَكُنmay happen فَالقَلبُthen the heart ياO لُبنَLubna ناشِرٌspreading
عَلَيكِover you الهَوىlove وَالجَيبُand the bosom ماas long as عِشتُI live ناصِحُfaithful
Whatever happens, my heart, O Lubna, spreads
Its love over you; my bosom is faithful as long as I live.
وَإِنَّكَand indeed you مِنfrom لُبنىLubna العَشيَّةَthis evening رائِحٌdeparting
مَريضُailing الَّذيthat which تُطوىare folded عَلَيهِaround it الجَوانِحُthe ribs
And indeed you depart from Lubna this evening,
Ailing in what your ribs enfold.
فَماso not وَجِدَتfelt وَجديmy anguish بِهاfor her أُمُّa mother واحِدٌan only son
بِواحِدِهاfor her only son ضُمَّتwere fitted together عَلَيهِover him صَفائِحُstone slabs
No mother of an only son has felt such anguish as mine for her,
Even for her only son, over whom stone slabs were laid together.
وَجَدتُI felt بِهاfor her وَجدَthe anguish of المُضِلِّone who has lost رِكابَهُhis riding camels
بِمَكَّةَat Mecca وَالرُكبانُand the riders غادٍsetting out in the morning وَرائِحُand traveling in the evening
For her I felt the anguish of one who has lost his riding camels,
At Mecca, while riders set out morning and evening.
