تَمَتَّعtake delight بِهاin her ماas long as سَعَفَتكَshe favors you وَلاand let her not تَكُنbecome
تَمَتَّع بِها ما سَعَفَتكَ وَلا تَكُن
عَلَيكَupon you شَجاًa lodged bone فيin الحَلقِthe throat حينَwhen تَبينُshe departs
عَلَيكَ شَجاً في الحَلقِ حينَ تَبينُ
Take delight in her as long as she favors you, and let her not become
a bone lodged in your throat when she departs.
وَإِنand if هِيَshe أَعطَتكَgives you اللَيانَtenderness فَإِنَّهاthen indeed she
وَإِن هِيَ أَعطَتكَ اللَيانَ فَإِنَّها
لَآخَرَto another مِنof خُلّانِهاher lovers سَتَلينُshe will soften
لَآخَرَ مِن خُلّانِها سَتَلينُ
And if she shows you tenderness, then she
will be tender to another of her lovers.
وَإِنand if حَلَفَتshe swears لاnot يَنقَدُbreaks النَأيُdistance عَهدَهاher pledge
وَإِن حَلَفَت لا يَنقَدُ النَأيُ عَهدَها
فَلَيسَfor there is no لِمَخضوبِfor one with dyed البَنانِfingertips يَمينُoath
فَلَيسَ لِمَخضوبِ البَنانِ يَمينُ
And if she swears that distance will not break her pledge,
for one with dyed fingertips, no oath is binding.
