أَلاAh! لَيتَif only لُبنىLubna فيin خَلاءٍseclusion تَزورُنيshe visits me
فَأَشكواso I may complain إِلَيهاto her لَوعَتيmy anguish ثُمَّthen تَرجَعُshe returns
Ah, if only Lubna would visit me in seclusion,
Would that I had my love alone in a wilderness to come and visit me
so I could tell her of my anguish, and then she would return.
Then I could open my heart's grief to her before she goes away
صَحاhas come to his senses كُلُّevery ذيpossessor of لُبٍّreason وَكُلُّand every مُتَيَّمٍlove-stricken man
وَقَلبيand my heart بِلُبنىover Lubna ماas long as حَيَيتُI live مُرَوَّعُdistraught
Every man of reason and every love-stricken man has come to his senses,
Every tenderhearted and love-sick one is healed at dawn
yet my heart remains distraught over Lubna as long as I live.
But my heart for my love will remain frightened as long as I live
فَياthen, O مَنwho لِقَلبٍfor a heart ماnot يَفيقُrecovers مِنَfrom الهَوىlove
وَياand, O مَنwho لِعَينٍfor an eye بِالصَبابَةِwith ardent longing تَدمَعُit weeps
Who, then, will aid a heart that never recovers from love,
Oh you whose heart cannot awake from passion
and who will aid an eye that weeps with ardent longing?
Oh you whose eyes with youthfulness still weep
