ياO عَمروُʿAmr إِنif تُسدِyou entrust الأَمانَةَthe trust بَينَناbetween us
يا عَمروُ إِن تُسدِ الأَمانَةَ بَينَنا
فَأَناthen I الَّذيthe one who إِنif خُنتَهاyou betray it يَرعاهاhe safeguards it
فَأَنا الَّذي إِن خُنتَها يَرعاها
O ʿAmr, if you place a trust between us,
O Amr, if you close the door of trust between us
Then I am the one who, if you betray it, safeguards it.
Then I am the one who, if you betray it, will guard it
ياO عَمروُʿAmr لَيسَis not أَخوa keeper of الأَمانَةِthe trust بِالَّذيone who
يا عَمروُ لَيسَ أَخو الأَمانَةِ بِالَّذي
ماwhatever رابَهُtroubled him مِنof خُطَّةٍa matter أَفشاهاhe divulged it
ما رابَهُ مِن خُطَّةٍ أَفشاها
O ʿAmr, a keeper of trust is not one
O Amr, the brother of trust is not one
Who divulges whatever matter troubles him.
Who has never been touched by any flaw he concealed
ياO عَمروُʿAmr إِنَّindeed أَخاa keeper of الأَمانَةِthe trust كاتِمٌone who conceals
يا عَمروُ إِنَّ أَخا الأَمانَةِ كاتِمٌ
لَوif يَستَطيعُhe could بِجِلدِهِwith his skin أَخفاهاhe would hide it
لَو يَستَطيعُ بِجِلدِهِ أَخفاها
O ʿAmr, a keeper of trust indeed keeps it hidden;
O Amr, the brother of trust is a concealer
If he could, he would hide it beneath his skin.
Who, if able, would hide it even beneath his skin
