I shall surely direct my praise to someone other than Hudhayfah—
I will direct my praise to none but Hudhaifa,
to the gallant of dusk and horseman of al-Ajraf.
The gallant knight and horseman of the heights.

If you meet the attacking horses of the tribe of ‘Amir,
you will not find them clutching their horses' manes.
Meet them not on the hilltops and crags.

But if there is to be a grave trial with ‘Amir,
then he is their defender and is equal to the task.
He will defend them and will suffice.

outstripping fine steeds; so does each fleet, wide-striding stallion,
Driving on fiery horses with flapping manes.

Lions in a jungle thicket or mountain cave.
