أُكَثِّرُI increase أَهليmy family مِنwith عِيالٍdependents سِواهُمُother than them
أُكَثِّرُ أَهلي مِن عِيالٍ سِواهُمُ
وَأَطويand I go hungry عَلىon الماءِthe water القَراحِpure المُبَرَّدِcooled
وَأَطوي عَلى الماءِ القَراحِ المُبَرَّدِ
I enlarge my household with dependents who are not my kin,
I have many dependents besides them
And I go hungry on pure, cooled water.
And I skim over the cooled, bitter water
إِذاif المَرءُa man لَمdid not يُشبِهresemble أَباهُhis father وَجَدَّهُand his grandfather
إِذا المَرءُ لَم يُشبِه أَباهُ وَجَدَّهُ
وَأُقحِمَand was thrust in إِقحاماًforcibly فَلَمand so did not يَتَسَدَّدِfind the right course
وَأُقحِمَ إِقحاماً فَلَم يَتَسَدَّدِ
If a man does not resemble his father and grandfather,
When a man does not resemble his father or grandfather
And is forcibly thrust in, he fails to find the right course.
And he barges in without hesitation
