رِسالَةَa message حَقٍّtruth لَستُI am not فيهاin it مُفَنَّداcharged with error
Hear this: you two, convey a message to this Khazraji,
Deliver a message to the Khazrajite
a message of truth, in which I am not to be charged with error.
A message of truth, in which I cannot be refuted
فَإِنّاfor indeed we تَرَكناكُمwe left you لَدىbeside الرَدمِal-Radm غُدوَةًearly morning
فَريقَينِtwo groups مَقتولاًslain بِهِat it وَمُطَرَّداand driven off
For we left you beside al-Radm at dawn,
For we left you in the morning by the rubble
in two bands: one slain there, the other driven off.
Two parties slain by it and expelled
صَبَحناكُمُwe assailed you at dawn مِنّاfrom among us بِهِat it كُلَّevery فارِسٍhorseman
كَريمِnoble النَثاrepute يَحميhe protects الذِمارَwhat must be defended لِيُحمَداso that he may be praised
We assailed you there at dawn with every horseman of ours,
We made you in the morning, all of our knights
of noble repute, guarding all he is bound to defend, to earn praise.
Noble, protecting glory, so they may be praised
أَتَذكُرُdo you mention? أَمراًa deed لَمnot تَنَلهُyou attained it وَإِنَّماand only
تَناوَلَtook up سَجلَthe bucket الحَربِof war مَنthe one who كانَwas أَنجَداbraver
Do you speak of a deed you did not achieve? It was only
Do you remember anything you did not attain?
the braver man who took up the bucket of war.
Rather, the record of war was taken by the most valiant
فَذُقso taste غِبَّthe aftermath ماwhat قَدَّمتَyou sent ahead إِنّيindeed I أَناI الَّذيthe one who
I served you a morning draught فيهِin it السِمامَthe poisons بِبُرجُداat Burjud
So taste the aftermath of what you sent ahead: I am indeed the one who
So taste the bitterness of what you have sent ahead
served you poison in it as a morning draught at Burjud.
It is I who made you drink poison in the morning
وَنَحنُand we حُماةُchampions الحَربِof war لَيسَتit does not تَضيرُناharm us
نَسوقُwe drive خَميساًan army كَالقَطاlike sandgrouse مُتَبَدِّداscattered
And we are war's champions; it does us no harm.
And we, protectors of war, are not harmed
We drive an army before us, scattered like sandgrouse.
We lead out troops like scattered cats
