The daughter of al-ʿAmrī says at the end of her night,

“Why have you been denied sleep, your night wakeful?”

So I said to her, “I fear for my people,

Lest they attack one another; may what I dread not take you unawares.

So let me not find you, after might and abundance,

With people saying, ‘Look—al-Nabīt are scattered bands!’

So do not put your spears into your own throats,

As the nails fastened the planks of the gate.”
