1. You are in my thoughts, O stranger in a land

    Where no stranger tastes of life.

  2. Indeed, the grave in which you came to rest is a garden,

    With every flower in it that gives delight.

  3. Medicine could not heal you—alas!

    From wounds that leave the physician bewildered.

  4. Ramadan has come, and you are far away,

    While the blaze of sorrows is close to me.

  5. No tears remain in my eyes,

    Yet in the heart’s recesses, tears stream.

  6. Sorrow opens a door for tears,

    And stones melt as the tears melt.

  7. We never asked the gravedigger about you;

    A sweet scent there guided us to you.
